Nursery and Reception

Ashleigh is proud to offer an excellent education for all within a framework of our vision and values; put simply, we want to enable your children to grow up and live life in all its fullness

This vision starts on your child's first day in Ashlings, our nursery and reception classes...

Ashlings Foundation Stage has a warm, happy atmosphere where purposeful learning takes place. The teaching and support staff are enthusiastic, hard-working and caring. We aim to provide a quality education for your child and hope that you will work in partnership with us towards this.

We have two bases within our Ashlings setting to provide designated outdoor spaces and provision for those in our nursery and reception.

Learning in Ashlings:

Learning through Continuous Provision makes up the majority of a child’s day in Ashlings. During this time the children self select from a range of activities and resources that can be accessed independently throughout their child initiated play.

Enhancements to the provision are made by adults on a daily basis so that it reflects the children's interests and developing skills. This enables learning to continue even when the children are not in direct contact with staff.

As well as learning through child  initiated play, your child will also benefit by engaging in adult led activities, either as a whole class, in small groups or pairs and individually. Adults in the environment observe what the children say and do and provide appropriate next steps to build on their understanding and learning.

Outdoor Learning:

Our mantra for outdoor learning is:

“louder - bigger - messier”

All of the children have access to a designated outdoor  learning environment that includes a mud kitchen, a garden area, sand, water and a large open space that is richly resourced with play materials that can be adapted and used in different ways.

Tapestry – our online learning journey

At Ashleigh, we strongly believe that the link between home and school can never be underestimated. With this in mind, all children attending Ashlings have a personal online learning   journey which records photos and observations. Logging on regularly will enable you to keep up to date with their progress and success as well as sharing the milestones that you notice at home.

Parents guides:

Below you will find some guides that we hope you will find useful in supporting your children at home.
