Week beginning: 5.1.26 Becoming more independent!

Happy New Year!
As we begin a new term, we are exploring how we become more independent learners. This means that in some subjects we will be moving from learning in small groups with an adult to whole class lessons where we all complete our task at the same time.
We have started with maths, in particular number bonds and have been honing our behaviour for learning skills by working in partners. I am so impressed with the mature attitudes and kindness shown by the children. They are rising to the challenge and should be very proud of themselves.

Week beginning 19.1.26 - Look at us reading!
There is always something very exciting as a Year 1 teacher when you see all the hard work the children have put into their phonics lessons start to pay off.
This week we have been learning how to ask and write questions. We began by learning how a question sentences differs from others we have learnt about.
In this sorting activity the children had to read the sentences (punctuation removed) and decide whether it was a command or a question. It was a joy to see the children decoding and reading the sentences in their pairs. They were so very proud of themselves, as I am of them.
