April
WB 20/4/26
It has been a lovely first week back after the Easter holidays, made even brighter by the sunshine that has streamed through our windows today. The children have returned full of enthusiasm and ready for the term ahead.
We began the week with a slight change to our routines as our Year 6 children start to focus on preparations for their upcoming SATs. At the same time, the Year 5 children have settled in brilliantly to their new routine and are now working with Mrs Mitchell. Everyone has adapted quickly and shown a fantastic, positive attitude to the changes.
In English , we launched into an exciting new writing topic inspired by The Hidden Forest by Jeannie Baker. The children enjoyed exploring the beautiful illustrations and discussing how the artwork tells a story without using words. Inspired by the book, we had a go at creating our own kelp forest collages. Using a wide range of paper materials, fabrics, cellophane and glitter, the children worked creatively to build layered underwater scenes. To add an extra magical touch, we mixed shimmer paint into PVA glue, which gave our artwork a wonderfully glossy, ocean-like finish.
