Foundation Stage

Hello and welcome to all our new children!

This term we will be focusing on Growing and The Olympics

Personal, Emotional and Social Development

The children will be trying out new activities and enjoying new challenges. We will be planning activities to encourage children to cooperate and learn together. Reception age children will be participating in more structured activities, in preparation for their move to year one.

Communication, Language and Literacy

We will share a range of story and information books about growing. We will discuss our ideas about growing, being careful to take turns in speaking and listening. We will be writing and role playing in Ashleigh Garden Centre. The children will continue to participate in daily letters and sounds sessions.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

The children will be counting stock in the garden centre, adding to find the cost of their ‘shopping’ and finding the correct coins to pay. They will be writing price labels and sorting the stock according to different criteria. They will be exploring different ways to measure things to do with growing eg, plant growth, each other.`

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

We will investigate growth. The children will be planting seeds, investigating the features of plants, and finding out what we need to grow well. They will learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and the frog.

Physical Development

The children will be participating in a variety of cooking and tasting activities as part of healthy eating in the FSU. They will be finding out about and playing different Olympic sports.

Creative Development

The children will be exploring a variety of printing techniques linked to our themes. They will be carefully drawing plants and insects. They will role play in Ashleigh Garden Centre.
